Popcorn Week: Basic Butter and Olive Oil

anniemade // Gourmet Popcorn Recipes

In honor of the Academy Awards this Sunday, February 24, I'll be hosting a special GOURMET POPCORN WEEK with a post every day til Friday!

If you're hosting an Oscar party, popcorn is truly the perfect snack and we've got four different varieties to share. Stay tuned as I'll be throwing a vote on our Facebook page for everybody's favorite too.

Today's recipe is how to pop up some classic, uber buttery and delicious popcorn. This is your base recipe for all the great things to come this week.

anniemade // Easy butter olive oil popcorn recipe

Ingredients (for 3 cups fully popped popcorn)

(The base recipe)

  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels (above are Organic Trader Joe's brand)
  • 1 tbsp Popcorn popping oil
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • A Whirley Pop or similar popcorn popper

(Add for buttery popcorn)

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions

Add your kernels, popcorn oil, and olive oil to your Whirley Pop. Shake the Pop around to coat the kernels. Set your burner on low-medium until you hear the kernels start to sizzle. At this point, gradually increase the heat while turning the gear on the whirley pop. You'll start to hear the popcorn pop for a good 2 minutes as you continually crank.

When you hear the popping tapper off suddenly, you are ready. Turn off the burner and shake your popcorn out into a bowl. Add your salt, butter, and other olive oil, mix, and enjoy!

You may want to save some kernels for tomorrow. This competition is about to get deliciously interesting!
